Chapter 10 - Someone Wanted Sarah Angry
Rachel said it plainly.
“Whoever is sending this knows enough truth to make every lie believable.”
First envelope produced genuine evidence.
Second photograph implied corruption falsely.
Why?
To push Sarah toward public retaliation?
Then anonymous account posted online:
THEY LET EMMA’S KILLERS WALK.
Photos of Tyler/Jason spread.
Threats followed families.
Sarah publicly asked people to stop.
“I want accountability. Not strangers hurting children.”
Important.
Tyler and Jason were still minors.
Then Sarah received message:
You’re protecting them now?
Sender unknown.
She realized someone wanted rage amplified.
Could sender be parent who lost child in earlier marina drowning?
Maybe.
Or Megan.
Then police traced anonymous account via mistake.
IP at public library.
Camera:
Megan.
Sarah stared.
Megan admitted posting.
“I wanted people to care.”
“You endangered your own brother.”
“He killed Emma.”
“Did you send envelope?”
Megan hesitated.
“No.”
Sarah believed maybe not.
Megan had copied documents but did not know final wax packet.
Then who had red folder?
Megan kept in bedroom.
After Emma died, father Andrew took it.
He claimed gave attorney.
Attorney denied.
Andrew finally admitted hiding in office storage.
Someone later stole.

Allison.
His assistant.
His father Richard.
Then Richard Brooks entered story.
Tyler’s grandfather.

Had pushed family to keep Tyler’s prior behavior private.
He considered juvenile mistakes “family business.”
Could he send envelope out of guilt?
He denied.
Then Sarah noticed blue star symbol.

Teacher.
Family.
Richard?
No reason.
Then Emma’s therapist? She didn't have one.
Then community art volunteer:
Linda Reed.
Jason’s mother.
She had helped Emma with crafts weekly.
Sarah had barely considered her because Jason’s father Marcus dominated family response.
Linda knew Emma’s blue stars.
She also had access to silver glitter.
She was small enough for porch figure.
Police interviewed.
Linda started crying immediately.
“I sent it.”
Finally.
“Why?”
“Because Jason told me everything.”
Then why not go police openly?
“Marcus wouldn't let me.”
Not literally force?
He threatened divorce, financial ruin, custody of younger daughter if she “destroyed Jason’s life.”
Linda hid evidence.
Then after verdict, guilt won.
Why condition to wait until verdict?
She wanted see whether system would uncover truth without her betraying son.
It didn't.
So envelope became failsafe.
Sarah stared at her.
“You waited to see if my daughter mattered enough without you?”
Linda cried.
“Yes.”
Terrible.
Honest.
Then Sarah asked what is inside final sealed packet.
