Chapter 5 - The Crash
Elena wanted police involved immediately.
Daniel already had contacted appropriate investigators about forged documents and trust transactions.
But Ryan’s statement alone did not prove Diane caused crash.
Truck driver had run red light because distracted by phone.
No payment from Diane.
No contact.
No conspiracy found.
Elena refused cheap conclusion.
Her mother could be cruel without being attempted murderer.
Then driver’s phone records revealed something strange.
He received repeated calls before collision from collection agency.
One creditor:
Morgan Recovery LLC.
Same surname coincidence?
Company owned by Ryan.
Elena stared.
Ryan explained it was debt-purchasing company.
He had bought portfolio containing driver's debt.
Did he intentionally harass driver?
Automated collection system.
No knowledge driver was near Elena.
Could be horrifying coincidence.
Daniel verified preliminary evidence supported him.
So Ryan wasn’t crash mastermind.
Then why estranged from Michael?
Because Michael accused him of stealing trust money.
Ryan admitted he once moved $600,000.
But said Michael asked him to.
Why?
To trace laundering route.
Trust assets had been pledged as collateral without Elena’s knowledge.
Someone created shell company:
Bell Meridian Holdings.
Authorized signer:
Diane Morgan.
Diane insisted signature forged.
Forensic comparison:
Probably genuine.
She eventually admitted signing “investment papers” fifteen years ago for friend.
Who?
Her then-boyfriend, Stephen Vale.
Elena remembered him.
Charming.
Gone after two years.
Stephen had told Diane Elena’s dormant trust was “family money” and could be leveraged.
Diane signed.
She claimed she didn't understand.
Daniel found emails proving she understood enough.
“I deserve some of what Daddy left her.”
There it was.
Resentment.
Diane had always viewed Elena’s inheritance as personal insult.
But Stephen vanished.
Michael spent years finding shell companies.
Then Michael died of heart attack at thirty-eight.
Natural, according autopsy.
No suspicious substances.
Again, no murder.
Still, why digital bomb?
Because Michael discovered Stephen had returned under different business name.
And someone inside Elena’s family was communicating with him.
Not Diane.
Ryan?
Maybe.
Then encrypted email recovered:
Timer must never reach zero. If Morgan archive opens, we lose everything.
