Chapter 2 - Michael’s Timer

Daniel told Elena not to press anything.

Police could examine it.

Bomb squad if necessary.

Diane laughed bitterly when Elena mentioned police.

“You think that's a bomb?”

Elena stared at her.

“Isn't it?”

Diane refused to answer.

That was enough to keep Elena frightened.

She locked the device inside Michael’s home safe and took the twins to stay temporarily with a trusted neighbor while Daniel arranged security.

Diane was told to leave.

She protested.

“This is my daughter’s home!”

Daniel corrected her.

“No, Mrs. Morgan. It isn't.”

Elena had bought the property with Michael seven years earlier.

Diane had contributed nothing.

But eighteen months ago Michael transferred title into a family holding trust.

Diane somehow believed that trust would eventually make the property hers.

Why?

Daniel found a letter.

Not from Michael.

From Elena.

Or supposedly Elena.

If anything happens to me, I want Mom to have the house.

Signature looked perfect.

Elena had never written it.

The document wasn't legally sufficient to transfer property.

But somebody wanted Diane to believe it was.

Daniel examined metadata.

Created four months earlier.

Two weeks before Elena’s crash.

Elena went cold.

Her accident had been caused by a delivery truck crossing a red light.

Driver survived.

Police found no intentional act.

Was forged letter coincidence?

Daniel warned her not to build conspiracy from timing alone.

Then Diane called.

“You humiliated me.”

Elena nearly hung up.

Diane continued:

“You think Michael was protecting you?”

“What does that mean?”

Silence.

“Mom?”

“Ask your precious lawyer where your husband’s money came from.”

Elena frowned.

Michael had been financial consultant.

Successful, not enormously wealthy.

After his death two years earlier, Elena discovered life insurance and investments totaling roughly $1.8 million.

Enough security for children.

Not hidden fortune.

Then Daniel arrived carrying preliminary trust records.

“Elena, Michael wasn't worth $1.8 million.”

“How much?”

Daniel placed one statement down.

$26,400,000.

Elena stared.

“That isn't possible.”

“It gets worse.”

Account owner wasn't Michael.

It was Morgan Family Restoration Trust.

Elena’s maiden name.

Created twenty-three years earlier.

When Elena was eleven.

And Diane Morgan was listed not as beneficiary—

but as debtor.
