Michael died from cardiac event.
Autopsy legitimate.
But Michael had known heart condition.
Elena hadn't.

Fear.

No, policy predates diagnosis.
He simply didn't want Elena worrying while pregnant with twins.
Another loving lie.
Three days before death, Michael experienced chest pain.

Then collapsed at home.
Could treatment have saved him?
Possibly.
Not certain.
Elena was furious at dead husband.

Why?
To prevent Stephen from seizing collateral during legal dispute.
He returned money within forty-eight hours.

Still unauthorized.
If discovered publicly, could damage his reputation and expose trust to litigation.
Michael built timer to give Elena choice:
Protect his image or release full ledger.
He didn't want dead-man control.
He wanted her to decide.
Why require Diane biometric?
Because Diane’s original admission was essential evidence if public release occurred.
If Diane scanned fingerprint, archive included her authenticated confession.
If not, it released financial ledger but flagged Diane allegations unverified.
So biometric didn't stop truth.
It determined evidentiary strength.
Elegant.
Then Elena asked Diane to authenticate.
Diane refused.
“I'll go to prison.”
Daniel corrected:
Possibly civil exposure; criminal limitation/issues complex. No threats.
Elena said:
“I’m not asking you to confess for revenge.”
“Then why?”
“So my children don't inherit our lies.”
Diane laughed bitterly.
“You think you're better than me because you have forty million dollars?”
“No.”

“I think I almost died, and first thing you did was look under my floor.”
Diane had no answer.
