Chapter 15 - The Road Ahead
Jack reached over and gently patted the small robot's metallic head, causing it to let out a happy, mechanical purr.
"Alright, Unit 04," Jack said, his voice dropping into a steady, serious tone. "Looks like we're going home. But if we're doing this, you need a real name."
The robot tilted its head up at him. "Designation assignment requested."
"Let's go with Chip," Jack said, shifting the truck back into drive and pulling out onto the open highway under the fading light of the afternoon sun. "Now let's go find out what my dad was really building in that garage."

As the blue pickup truck sped down the long, empty road toward the mountains, the small digital screen on Chip's chest flickered subtly, displaying a hidden line of code that Jack didn't notice:
