Chapter 14 - The Family Secret
The air inside the truck cabin fell completely silent, save for the ticking of the cooling engine. Jack reached out a trembling hand and touched the glowing holographic projection resting above the dashboard.
"That's my house..." Jack whispered, the color draining from his face once again. "My dad was an engineer for an aerospace firm... he died in a strange accident twenty years ago."
The robot nodded its round head, its turquoise eyes dimming slightly in sympathy. "Engineer Thomas Miller did not die in an accident. He successfully hid the star-core key from the Corporation before they could capture him."

Jack closed his eyes as memories of his father flooded his mind—the late nights in the garage, the strange metal locking boxes under the floorboards, and the final warning his father had given him before he disappeared: If anything ever falls out of the sky, Jack, don't let them take it.
He opened his eyes, a newfound, cold determination replacing the goofy terror that had consumed him all afternoon.
