Chapter 8 - Lily’s Handwriting
Forensic comparison showed note closely resembled Lily’s handwriting.
But not identical.
Someone imitated it.
Why frame six-year-old?
Maybe not frame.
Maybe trigger.
Eleanor admitted Anna had given her another letter before death.
She never opened it.
Victor exploded.
“Six years?”
“Anna told me not to unless Lily showed a specific sign.”
“What sign?”
Eleanor looked at Lily.
“The crescent mark.”
Claire stared.
“You mean her birthmark?”
Eleanor nodded.
Anna knew Lily had mark from birth.
Why wait for it?
Because mark itself was not condition.
Anna said:
“If Lily ever points to it and asks why Catherine had same one, open letter.”
Catherine had similar birthmark?
Eleanor had seen it.
So had Anna.
Again not proof of genetics; Catherine was Lily’s maternal grandmother, so hereditary skin marking plausible.
But Lily had never asked.
Until tonight?
After fall dress shifted.
Lily touched mark.
“Mommy had one too.”
Anna also had crescent mark.
Three generations.
That was why Eleanor looked terrified after Victor confronted her.
Not because mark proved Lily did not belong.
Because Eleanor recognized trigger Anna described.
She realized unopened letter now had to be read.
Her terror was about what Anna predicted would happen when Lily turned six.
Victor stared.
“So when you looked at Lily after saying she didn't belong…”
“I saw the mark. I remembered Anna’s instruction.”
“Why did you kick her before that?”
Eleanor looked ashamed.
“Because I believed anonymous File 614 copy. I thought Victor had hidden another scandal. I was angry and I took it out on a child.”
No excuse.
Claire said:
“You will not be alone with Lily again.”
Eleanor nodded.
Victor did not defend sister.
Then they retrieved Anna’s sealed letter from Eleanor’s private bank box.
Inside:
If Lily is six when you open this, someone has probably already started accessing Ward 2 again.
Victor’s pulse rose.
How could Anna predict timing?
Because Catherine’s beneficiary nominee status expired when youngest direct descendant turned six under obscure trust clause.
Lily’s sixth birthday triggered mandatory audit.
Not supernatural foresight.
Anna knew trustees would reopen records.
Someone wanted control before audit.

Everyone looked at Eleanor.
She had been first.

Anna continued:
They will want you fighting about blood while they move the property.
That was central misdirection.
Someone wanted family obsessed with Lily’s legitimacy while Ward 2 assets changed hands.
Then Victor’s attorney called.
Three days earlier, $11.8 million in Ward 2 property interests had been scheduled for transfer.
