Henry Bennett anticipated future genetic questions.
Why?
Project Eight records were flawed.
He worried descendants might encounter false matches.
So he sealed original family genealogy and consent records with trigger:
only open if paternity/kinship dispute arose.
A fake paternity report would satisfy lawyers.
That was actual objective.
Someone used Vanessa and Ethan’s emotional history to create qualifying dispute.
But Ethan hid incident.
No lawyer.
No formal dispute.
Therefore file never opened.
Plan failed.
Until Vanessa returned four years later and announced it in front of Claire.
Now legal dispute existed.
Henry’s sealed file opened.
Inside:
not inheritance.
Not secret child.
Not proof Sophie wasn't Ethan’s.
Original Project Eight consent records.
A letter.
And photograph.
Henry wrote:
IF FAMILY EIGHT IS REOPENED, DO NOT ASSUME THE PROBLEM IS PATERNITY. SOMEONE ALTERED THE RELATIONSHIP MAP TO HIDE SAMPLE SUBSTITUTION.
Sample substitution.
Twenty-five years earlier, one participant’s blood sample was replaced with another.
Why?
Research integrity.
Which?
Ethan’s adolescent control sample.
His original vial had been contaminated at collection.
Rather than redraw, technician substituted archived sample belonging to another male Bennett relative.
That was misconduct.
As a result, old Project Eight genetic profile labeled ETHAN BENNETT was not Ethan.

This explained unexpected kinship discrepancies without changing Ethan’s real biology.
Whose sample?
Henry’s younger brother:
Samuel Bennett.
Samuel died twenty years ago.
So every later analysis using “Ethan’s” Project Eight profile was actually Samuel’s.
When Claire pregnancy data was cross-referenced, system saw incompatibilities and unusual family links.
Someone discovering error could expose research scandal.
Marcus tried.
Daniel Cross tried earlier.
Why fabricate paternity report rather than correct sample label?
Because someone wanted Henry’s sealed file opened.
Who?
Maybe whistleblower.
Not villain.
Perhaps person lacked authority and used emotional trigger to force disclosure.
But they chose cruel method.
Then Claire asked:
“Who knew Henry’s trigger condition?”
Estate attorney.
Margaret.
Daniel Cross.
Marcus.
And Samuel Bennett’s daughter—
Julia Bennett.
Ethan had cousin Julia.
Forty-three.
Foundation board secretary.
Claire knew her.
Quiet.
Competent.
She had attended Sophie’s birth gala.
Security footage showed Julia entering Grand Meridian event office at 9:04 p.m.
Two hours before report reached Vanessa.
Julia became prime suspect.
She admitted using Daniel Cross’s retired credential.
Why?
“My father’s sample was stolen.”
“Your father was Samuel.”
“Yes.”
“He consented to Project Eight?”
“No. He gave blood during unrelated surgery. Kessler used it.”
Another consent violation.
Julia spent years trying open Henry file.
Trustees refused because trigger not met.
She created fake paternity report to force trigger.
Claire stared.
“You weaponized my unborn daughter.”
“I never intended Vanessa to take it.”
“Who did you intend?”
“Ethan.”
“Then why Room 814?”
Julia looked genuinely confused.
“I sent report to Marcus.”
So chain had another turn.
Julia created report and sent it to Marcus, expecting him to confront Ethan officially.
Marcus instead gave it through Laura Keene toward Room 814 because Margaret ordered him keep scandal away from gala.
Laura delivered to Vanessa due Room 814 instruction misunderstanding/manipulation.
Thus no one person planned exact emotional catastrophe.
Julia started it.
Marcus mishandled.
Laura delivered.
Vanessa exploited.
Ethan concealed.
A chain.
Then Claire asked:
“Did Julia create emergency caregiver form?”
“No.”
That remained unexplained.
And unlike fake report—
