They did not stage private confrontation.
Attorneys and investigator arranged monitored meeting in hotel conference room.
Margaret Vale arrived voluntarily.
Elegant.
Gray-haired.
Calm.
Not unstable caricature.
She looked at Claire first.
“I owe you apology.”
Claire said:
“You owe us truth.”
Margaret admitted accessing Claire’s Hawthorne record without authorization.
Admitted February meeting.
Admitted entering Bennett mansion once.
Not three times.
Why?
Eleanor had called her.
Eleanor denied.
Margaret produced voicemail.
Voice sounded exactly like Eleanor:
“I found what Charles hid. Come through service entrance. Do not call Ethan.”
Audio forensic analysis:
AI-generated/cloned voice.
Someone lured Margaret too.
At mansion Margaret found no one.
She left.
So one of three unauthorized entries Margaret.
Other two unknown.
Did Margaret forge paternity report?
“No.”
Did she want Claire with Adrian?
“Yes.”
Years ago.
“Do you still?”
“No.”
Why?
“My son spent years recovering from relationship. I made it worse by refusing accept it ended.”
She admitted obsession.
But denied current scheme.
Then why fake report used Adrian?
“Because whoever made it knew my history. They wanted you to blame me.”
Margaret provided her old Hawthorne access records.
After discipline, Charles Bennett had forced audit.

Who copied everything?
His daughter Catherine later inherited.

Then Margaret revealed Charles’s true 2017 discovery.

Margaret said:
“Ask Jonathan why Hawthorne paid him $1.8 million in 2018.”
Ethan stared.
Jonathan had never disclosed board relationship.
Payment records confirmed:
consulting exit settlement.
Jonathan Price had advised both Bennett Foundation and Hawthorne parent company.
Conflict.
Charles discovered.
That was why 2017 investigation hidden.
Jonathan had access to:
Claire-Adrian engagement file.

Margaret records.
Eleanor signature templates.

Everything.
And Jonathan was male guest Eleanor looked toward.
At ballroom, Eleanor had not accidentally exposed Adrian.
She had exposed Jonathan.
Why had Jonathan told Eleanor not react?
Because he knew Lily’s accusation would occur?
How could he know what child would say?
Unless he had heard Lily before.
Claire remembered.
At reception, Jonathan had spoken privately with Lily ten minutes before scene.
