Hawthorne had retained Ethan’s semen sample from earlier fertility evaluation under standard consent for limited period.
Claire believed treatment finished.
She received notice asking whether to destroy remaining material.
Ethan was traveling.
She signed destruction request for her own specimens and asked clinic contact Ethan separately for his.
She did not have authority to destroy his sample.
Clinic records showed Ethan later electronically consented.
Ethan remembered clicking form.
So no secret.
Both samples scheduled destruction February 11.
But destruction certificate?
Missing.
Hawthorne closure interrupted archive transfer.
Could Ethan’s reproductive sample have remained?
Possibly.
That reopened terrifying possibility.
Could someone use it to create Claire’s pregnancy without her knowledge?
No.
Claire conceived through intercourse with Ethan months later by obstetric dating.
Medical records showed no insemination procedure.
No unexplained sedation.

The stored sample’s existence could create fake evidence but did not explain pregnancy.
Then Claire revealed why she went in person.
Margaret had called her.
Though supposedly retired.
She said:
“Before you destroy anything, you should know Ethan’s sample has an abnormality.”
Claire panicked.
At clinic Margaret admitted she lied to get meeting.
She wanted talk about Adrian.
Claire left furious.
She never told Ethan because encounter felt humiliating and irrelevant.
Another hidden piece.
Margaret had been trying reunite Claire and Adrian even then.
Then February 11 security footage recovered.
Claire enters Hawthorne.
Margaret follows twenty minutes later.

Eleanor.
Claire stared.
“You were there?”
Eleanor said no.
Footage zoom.
Woman in burgundy coat.
Face obscured.
Not enough.
Eleanor produced calendar showing she was in Boston board meeting with timestamped video conference.
Could have traveled? No.
Impossible timing.
Someone deliberately dressed like her.
Pattern:
Impersonate Eleanor.
Use her signatures.
Use her access.
Make her look complicit.
Why Eleanor specifically?
Because she was family gatekeeper.
If she appeared guilty, Ethan and Claire would turn against her.
And because Eleanor had actually concealed so much that frame worked.
Then independent prenatal paternity result arrived.
Ethan did not open immediately.
He handed envelope to Claire.
“Together.”
They opened.
Probability Ethan Bennett is biological father:
greater than 99.99%.
Claire began crying.
Ethan closed eyes.
The baby was his.
Current central question partly answered.
But full mystery still not.
Adrian was not father.
Lily had witnessed Adrian mistakenly believing forged report.
Then why did Margaret construct this?
Likely.
But evidence not yet enough.
Ethan called Adrian.
“The baby is mine.”
Adrian sat down.
Relief, not disappointment.
“Thank God.”
That reaction mattered.
He had never wanted steal Claire.
He had feared responsibility based on report.
Then Adrian said:
“My mother called me.”
Everyone froze.
“When?”
“Ten minutes ago.”
“What did she say?”
Adrian’s voice shook.
“She said the test proves nothing.”
Claire whispered:
“Why?”
“Because she says she never forged report.”
Ethan:
“Where is she?”
“She wants meet.”
“Where?”
Adrian looked toward ballroom hotel visible through office window.
“She said where this started.”
Grand Bellmont.
And she demanded Lily not come.
