Henry Carter Jr. was Elena’s half-brother.
Twelve years older.
Estranged after dispute with their father.
He worked briefly for Carter Health compliance before leaving in 2017.
Daniel remembered “Uncle Hank” from childhood but had been told he moved overseas.
Henry was alive.
Living in Maine.
He agreed to speak.
Why call Robert personally?
Because medication incident involved Elena’s husband.
He wanted family warned quickly.
He called house.
Elena answered.
Henry remembered telling her:
“Wrong strength, not poison. Get Robert to cardiologist today.”
She did.
Robert died before appointment.
Henry carried guilt despite no evidence call or error caused event.
After death, Carter Health lawyers handled settlement.
Henry opposed secrecy.
Elena supported it.
They stopped speaking.
Why was Henry hidden from Daniel afterward?
Because Henry threatened to expose land agreements too.
Elena cut him out.
Another person erased socially, not literally.
Then Henry provided crucial evidence.
Robert James had called him from Room 214 night before death.
“He told me he and Bobby finally agreed.”
“About land?”
“About Daniel.”
Daniel stiffened.
Robert wanted Daniel removed as emergency custodian.
Why?
Not because he distrusted son.
Because Daniel was engaged to Sarah.
At that time Sarah and Daniel were not yet married but serious.
Robert had learned Sarah’s employer represented developer interested in Morgan parcel.
Sarah froze.
She had worked at Westbridge Legal as junior assistant.
She never handled land deal.
But conflict appearance existed.
Robert decided Daniel should not be dragged into family trust.
So “everything father left Daniel” truly was misleading.
By death, Robert intended leave Daniel no governance role over disputed land.
He wanted independent trustee.
Was Elena hiding that because she wanted Daniel control?
Yes.
She had preserved older document naming Daniel.
If original 2017 memorandum surfaced, Daniel’s role disappeared.
Elena had spent nine years positioning son as future family representative.
Not to steal land personally.
But because she believed Daniel would protect Carter-Morgan family wealth better than outsiders.
Daniel rejected role immediately.
Independent governance was clearly appropriate.
Then Henry asked:
“Did you find Bobby?”
No.
Henry looked concerned.
“He called me yesterday.”
After meeting Elena.
“What did he say?”
“He said he found Robert’s final memorandum.”
“Where?”
“Room 214.”
Motel was demolished.
Henry shook head.
“Not motel.”
Daniel stared.
“Then what is Room 214?”
Henry answered:
“A storage code.”

And Robert Hale had just opened it.
