Chapter 8 - Anna’s Warning

Anna had married once before her death.
Not David. David was her brother? Need consistency: earlier Anna is Lily’s mother and Margaret is David's mother. So Anna is David's deceased sister. Yes.
Anna’s husband was Michael Grant.
Lily’s biological father.
He died two years after Anna in confirmed motorcycle accident.
Lily therefore lost both parents young.
Claire later became David’s partner and maternal figure.
Anna’s note about “the bride” likely referred to Michael’s second wedding plans?
But Michael never remarried.
Then old message surfaced.
Three weeks before Anna’s fatal accident:
MOM, IF MICHAEL MARRIES HER, DO NOT LET HER INTO THE FOUNDATION ARCHIVE.
Who was “her”?
Michael had apparently been having affair.
Woman:
Sophie Grant.
Wedding coordinator.
No relation by birth; she took Grant surname later? Better Sophie was Sophie Mercer originally. Let's avoid surname coincidence. Rename wedding coordinator Sophie Mercer. But prompt only fixed main names. We can correct now: Sophie Mercer.
Sophie Mercer was same woman coordinating Claire and David’s wedding.
David stared.
Anna had warned Margaret about Sophie four years earlier.
Why was Sophie now running Claire’s wedding?
Claire had hired agency.
Agency assigned Sophie.
Coincidence?
Maybe not.
Sophie admitted she knew Anna.
She denied affair with Michael.
They were working together secretly.
On what?
Continuity Reserve.
Michael was attorney.
He and Anna discovered one board member using relocation payments to move people not for safety—but to keep them unavailable during legal claims.
Who?
Stephen Ward.
Foundation counsel.
There.
Stephen used protected-relocation program to delay testimony.
Not kidnap.
Not imprisonment.
He persuaded vulnerable claimants to enter confidential settlements with travel restrictions and aliases.
Legally murky.
Sometimes coercive.
Anna and Michael investigated.
Sophie helped gather billing evidence.
Why Anna wrote “if Michael marries her”?
It was code?
Sophie laughed bitterly.
Anna used sarcastic phrase because Michael and Sophie spent so much time together that Margaret suspected affair.
Anna reassured mother privately?
Actually note suggested distrust.
Sophie explained Anna initially suspected her, later trusted her.
There should be later note.
They found it:
I WAS WRONG ABOUT SOPHIE.
SHE FOUND WARD’S SECOND LEDGER.
So Sophie not original villain.
Why did she plant spyware?
She accepted vendor tool from Robert unknowingly.
Stephen may have inserted malicious profile through foundation system.
Then why was Margaret gone from Silver Pines?
Security footage:
Margaret walked out voluntarily.
With Sophie.
David stared.
Sophie had left police interview before warrant.
Was she helping Margaret?
Or taking her?
Then Lily remembered live call background.
On wall behind Margaret had been framed blue flower.
Sophie’s wedding office used same art.
Margaret may have been calling from Sophie’s office.
Claire whispered:
“She was never at Silver Pines during call.”
Someone had staged background.
Why?
May you like
To make police search wrong location.
Margaret herself was participating.
