Chapter 10 - The Woman Lily Was Named After

Lily Morgan was a Bellweather patient advocate.
Not related to Ethan.
Not biological family.
Julia met her during fertility treatment.
Lily Morgan warned Julia:
“Never sign anything you haven’t copied yourself.”
She had discovered Bellweather sometimes backdated consent acknowledgments after procedures.
Mostly administrative shortcuts.
Dangerous.
She filed internal complaint.
Keene retaliated professionally and she resigned.
No disappearance.
Rebecca had said “disappeared” meaning left suddenly.
She was alive in Seattle.
When contacted, she agreed speak.
She remembered Julia.
“Terrified woman. Very smart. Very sick.”
Did she advise Julia to use multiple embryos secretly?
“No.”
In fact, she warned against any transfer without Ethan’s consent.
Julia ignored.
Then why name child Lily?
Because Lily Morgan had helped Julia demand copies of embryo records.
Those copies later proved three embryos existed.
Without them, Keene could have erased C entirely.
So Julia named daughter after advocate who taught her keep paper trail.
That made Lily’s name part of evidence, not secret identity.
Then Lily Morgan provided copy of her complaint.
It documented weaknesses before embryo C unauthorized transfer.
This strengthened case against Bellweather/Keene.
Did clinic leadership know?
Yes.
Board received complaint.
Failed to act.
Major institutional failure.
Then current mystery shifted from family confusion to accountability.
Ethan did not want story become media spectacle around children.
Attorneys sought sealed proceedings.
Bellweather successor company still existed under new ownership.
Current owners cooperated.
No need destroy clinic.
Independent review identified old responsible officials.
Keene primary decision-maker for C concealment.
Rebecca responsible for processing B using copied signature and delaying disclosure.
Julia responsible for arranging B without Ethan.
Robert responsible for withholding knowledge.
Claire responsible for months concealment and abuse.
Rebecca responsible for theatrical reveal involving toddlers.
Different culpability.
No single mastermind.
Then Melissa asked:
“What happens to Nora?”
Ethan answered:
“I don't know yet.”
Good.
She had raised Nora.
He would not rip child away.
Elizabeth asked same for Mia.
Ethan said:
“You’re her mother in every way she understands right now.”
Genetics mattered legally/medically.
Attachment mattered emotionally.
They sought family court arrangement with child-development experts.
No magical biological entitlement.
Then Ethan met Mia alone with caregiver nearby.
She asked:
“You Daddy Ethan?”
“Yes.”
“Daddy mine?”
He paused.
“I’m your biological dad.”
She didn't understand.
He simplified:
“I’m family.”
“Live your house?”
“Not unless everybody decides that’s good for you.”
Mia smiled.
“Okay.”
Then Nora asked if Lily was twin.
“No.”
“Sister?”
“Yes.”
She laughed.
“Same dress.”
That was enough.
Then Lily saw Claire only through supervised setting weeks later.
Claire apologized:
“I hurt you.”
Lily hid behind Ethan.
Claire did not approach.
No child required forgive.
Then Claire entered treatment.
Her relationship with Ethan remained uncertain.
She gave investigators everything.
Including one fact:
Before current day, Rebecca told her K-3 did not exist.
Why lie?
Rebecca said she feared Claire would tell Robert, and Robert had connection to Bellweather board.
But Robert had been whistleblowing investor, not protector.
Rebecca had assumed wrong.
Her secrecy prolonged.
Then Ethan asked Rebecca:
“Why did you distrust everyone?”
She said:
“Because every adult in this story had already lied.”
“And you solved that by lying too.”
“Yes.”
Then she handed him original embryo chain-of-custody.
Three embryos.
Three transfers.
Three daughters.
No more.
The identity mystery was structurally solved.
But who specifically authorized C?
Keene claimed he alone.
Document showed second approval initials:
M.G.
Melissa Grant?
She stared.
“Those aren't mine.”
Who then?
Bellweather compliance officer:
Margaret Greene.
She was dead? Avoid. Retired.

If she approved knowingly, conspiracy broader.
