Chapter 9 - The Meeting of Steel

Damon slowly raised his head, his dark eyes narrowing as he recognized the woman standing before him. The arrogant sneer that usually rested on his face flickered for a fraction of a second before he quickly masked it with a smooth, professional smile.

"Mrs. Sterling," Damon said, leaning back in his leather chair. "I didn't expect you to grace us with your presence. But if you're here to plead for a higher settlement price for your late husband's shares, you're wasting your time."

Emma walked toward the long table, stopping directly opposite him. She didn't sit down. Instead, she reached into her jacket pocket, pulled out the silver dragon key fob, and tossed it onto the glass table. It slid across the smooth surface, stopping right beside Damon's leather folder.

"You dropped this on my street yesterday after nearly running over my children," Emma said, her tone utterly devoid of fear.

Damon looked at the key fob, then back at Emma, his expression hardening into stone. "Suburban streets are public property, Mrs. Sterling. Kids shouldn't be playing near the road. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have a corporate acquisition to finalize."
