Chapter 13 - The Unopened File
Emma froze with her hand on the brass door handle. She turned her head slowly, her heart skipping a beats-per-minute tempo as she looked back at him.
"What did you say?" Emma demanded.
Damon stood up, a twisted smile spreading across his face as he reached inside his desk drawer and pulled out a thick, faded yellow manila envelope. "Your husband didn't die in a mountain driving accident, Emma. He was running away from something. Or rather... someone."
Emma walked back toward the desk, her breath catching in her throat. "Explain yourself."

Damon tossed the envelope onto the table. "Open it. Inside are the original telemetry reports from his car that night. The brakes didn't fail on their own. Someone remotely accessed the vehicle's computer system through a satellite link."
Emma stared at the yellow envelope, her fingers trembling slightly as she reached out to touch the heavy paper.
