Daniel wanted to read both immediately.
Phoebe insisted they reconstruct before interpretation.
This was no longer arbitrary delay.

M likely Miriam Cole.
She created confidentiality system and ordered false record.
R likely Rose Hayes.
She objected and retained evidence.

If that were full truth, why Chapter 15?

There was text after each.
Covered by wear and tiny script.
Specialist imaging recovered structure but Phoebe held full transcription pending all parties.

What followed mattered.
Then Catherine found her mother Miriam’s journals.

Old maternity files transferred offsite.

R?
No.
Too convenient.
Then Margaret’s estate contained storage receipt.
R.H. STORAGE — BOX 214.
Rose Hayes.
Where it rested.
They located box.
Inside old administrative ledger.
Original C-17 entry.
Mother:
Nora Bennett.
No surprise now.
Father:
Blank.
Then attached handwritten note:
Paternity not to be recorded at patient request.
So lockets did not reveal father.
Another misdirection.
Then ledger contained correction authorization.
Signed:
Miriam Cole.
Witness:
Rose Hayes.
Again names.
But one more line:
Patient transported under M.R. authorization.
M.R.
Who?
Not Miriam/Rose separately?
A person with initials M.R.
Daniel searched hospital leadership.
Dr. Matthew Reed.
Chief administrator.
Dead.
Could he be creator of lie?
Then Catherine found records.
Matthew Reed authorized privacy transfer.
He also received $250,000 Mercer donation.
Potential corruption.
But bank audit showed funds went hospital program.
No personal gain.
Then Rose remembered.
“M.R. wasn't Matthew Reed.”
“What was it?”
“Maternal Release.”
A form.
Everyone laughed bitterly.
Initials kept producing people who weren't people.
Then Daniel realized central mystery was not genealogy.
It was instructions.
The locket inscriptions encoded document trail.
M and R were starting words.
If read fully, they would identify:
Who moved original.
Where it was stored.
Why did Claire fear it?
Because original might expose Evelyn’s role.
Then Rose said:
“Not Evelyn.”
Claire stared.
“Then who?”
Rose looked at her.
“Your mother didn't falsify C-17.”
“But everyone said—”
“She changed the draft because Miriam ordered her.”
“That's falsifying.”
“The final false certificate came later.”
“By whom?”
Rose looked toward Daniel.
“Rebecca.”
Silence.
Daniel stood.
“No.”
