Chapter 9 - Eleanor’s Forgery
Eleanor did not deny it.
Fourteen years earlier Catherine confronted her with Patient Eighteen file.
She was furious at Arthur.
She wanted Victor told immediately.
Eleanor panicked.
Arthur was recovering from stroke.
Hale Foundation faced audit.
Victor was negotiating sale that protected thousands of jobs.
Eleanor convinced herself disclosure at that moment would destroy everything.
So she forged letter making Catherine believe Victor already knew.
Why would that silence Catherine?
Eleanor thought Catherine would confront Victor privately after transaction.
Instead it devastated her.
Catherine believed husband had hidden childhood harm for years.
She left mansion that night.
Eleanor expected her to return.
She didn't.
“Did you follow her?”

He created Room 17 archive to preserve evidence after Eleanor attempted to destroy forged draft.
Why name Catherine access holder?
Guilt.
He wanted her able to retrieve records if she returned.
That explained Arthur helping Catherine before disappearance and later maintaining archive.
Daniel appeared less central.
Eleanor became obvious villain.
But mystery resisted simplicity.
Mara revealed Catherine called her three days after leaving.
Alive.
Safe.
And aware letter was forged.
“How?”
Arthur contacted Catherine and confessed Victor never knew.
So Catherine learned truth within three days.
Why didn't she come home?

“Yes.”
“For fourteen years?”

Victor turned toward brother.

Could be someone else.

The upstairs woman had said:
“Tell Grandpa Daniel isn't the one.”
Victor froze.
Lily called him Grandpa affectionately though Victor was her great-uncle? Relationship issue. Daniel is Lily's father, Victor 55 perhaps Daniel’s uncle? Prompt does not specify.
