Martin requested meeting with counsel.
He admitted preparing altered 1999 agreement.
Claimed Samuel ordered after Rebecca verbally extended separation during phone call.
“Why not get new signature?”
“Samuel said no time.”
“Why reuse signature?”
“Because he said it was administrative.”
Martin knew wrong.

Did Martin send threat photo of Emma sleeping?
He denied.
Investigators checked old records.
The photo was printed on paper used by Samuel’s executive office.

No definitive author.
Martin said:
“I never threatened child.”
No proof contrary.
We should not fabricate certainty.
Thus some past detail remains unknowable without undermining central arc.
Whoever sent threat, Rebecca believed real.
Samuel’s behavior made plausible.
Martin’s alteration definitely harmed Rebecca.
Would full custody outcome differ without? Family-law experts said possibly, but not certain.
Rebecca’s own missed hearings and extended absence also mattered.
So cannot say Martin stole Emma’s childhood alone.

Then Martin explained current burner message.
Yes.
He sent:
AFTER MERGER, 17 WILL BE DESTROYED.
He wanted Emma act before Caroline contacted.

Samuel dead.

Then Emma confronted her own choices.

used false surname history? Actually Caldwell is adoptive true name, so not false.
withheld biological identity.
dated Ethan partly for access.
continued relationship after feelings became real without disclosing.
planned decoy theft.
tested balcony fall.
threatened Claire.
allowed Claire’s kick to become launch.
risked pregnancy.
She could not say Martin “made” her.
He fed lie.
She acted.
Ethan said:
“I don’t know what we are anymore.”
Emma nodded.
“I know.”
“But I’m going to be present for baby.”
“I know.”
“And I need truth from now on.”
She looked at him.
“You may not like all of it.”
“That’s not same as not wanting it.”
That line mattered.
Rebecca stayed in city.
No instant mother-daughter reunion.
Emma agreed to one hour at a time.
They started with coffee.
Rebecca brought no photos.
No explanations.
Emma asked:
“What music do you hate?”
Rebecca laughed.
Something ordinary.

Then Claire came to Ethan.
“Do you hate me?”
“For kicking a pregnant woman off balcony?”
Claire flinched.
“You asked.”
“Yes. I’m furious.”
“Do you believe she jumped?”
“I believe she planned to use your kick.”
Claire nodded.
“That doesn’t make kick okay.”
“No.”
Again both.
Claire accepted.
Then Ethan checked Vault index.
One last file under Northcrest:
REBECCA HALE — CHILD CONTACT LOG.
If it showed attempts to contact Emma, it could settle how often Rebecca tried.
They opened.
Thirty-seven attempted letters between 1999–2008.
Most marked:
RETURNED.
NO FORWARDING.
RESTRICTED.
Someone had blocked more contact than Rebecca remembered.
Who controlled?
Adoption intermediary agency.
