Chapter 7 - Why Mia Came Back

Mia believed white mixture was more than sedative.

She was right.

Nora Bennett originally created it as oral rehydration and nutrition mixture for emergency shelters.

Later Eleanor added antihistamine for transport calmness.

But Carter Biologics research team sometimes added trace marker compound to certain study batches.

Not harmful.

Used to monitor absorption in metabolic research.

Was Lucy’s bottle one of those?

Hospital test found marker.

Yes.

That meant liquid Eleanor gave Lucy came from research batch.

Why would she use research batch at home?

Eleanor claimed mistake.

She picked unlabeled white pitcher from foundation delivery refrigerator.

Emma did not believe.

Then investigators checked.

A Carter Biologics courier had delivered two sealed containers that morning.

One:

standard pediatric nutrition.

One:

research reference solution, not for consumption.

Both white.

Labels removed after being placed into matching ceramic pitchers by house staff?

Who instructed that?

Eleanor.

Why?

She hated branded containers at dining area.

Aesthetic preference.

Careless.

But research solution contained antihistamine?

No.

Hospital found antihistamine added separately.

So Eleanor intentionally added sedative.

Why?

She wanted Lucy asleep before Emma returned.

Why?

“To move her.”

Emma almost attacked her again.

“Where?”

“To my sister’s house.”

“Why?”

“Because I received message saying someone was coming for her.”

“Who?”

“Mia.”

Silence.

Eleanor showed phone.

Unknown number:

GET LUCY OUT BEFORE EMMA GETS HOME. PROJECT CONTINUITY IS ACTIVE AGAIN.

She believed from Mia because phrasing matched old messages.

Then another:

DO NOT TRUST EMMA UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SIGNED.

Eleanor panicked.

She planned take Lucy to secure family property.

She added sedative because baby resisted car seat badly and she wanted quiet transfer.

Again controlling.

Again inappropriate.

But different from poisoning.

Then why frame Emma?

Because when Emma entered aggressively, Eleanor believed maybe warning true.

That Emma knowingly reactivated Project Continuity.

She seized opportunity to remove Emma from house and keep Lucy.

Paranoia.

Who sent messages?

Not Mia.

Ava confirmed Mia’s recent number different.

Someone impersonated her.

Then Mia’s last known message to Eleanor a year earlier:

WHITE FORMULA WAS NEVER THE PROBLEM. CHECK THE CONSENT DATABASE.

That was what she wanted.

Formula records led to Project Continuity consent.

What did Emma sign?

Emma denied signing research consent for Lucy.

Hospital birth forms included optional research checkboxes.

She declined.

But Carter Foundation database showed active consent under Emma’s maiden name.

Digital signature.

Could be forged.

Or old broad consent from Marlow House years ago carried forward.

Legal team traced.

At age twenty-four Emma signed foundation housing agreement containing clause consenting “household descendants to de-identified longitudinal research.”

Unbelievably broad.

Potentially unenforceable for future children.

Yet system automatically activated Lucy profile.

Mia had discovered this.

So Lucy was being tracked in research database without Emma’s current informed consent.

That explained warning.

But who cared enough to impersonate Mia and manipulate Eleanor?

Database access log showed one name.

DR. NORA BENNETT.

Retired pediatrician.

May you like

Creator of white mixture.

And Mia’s former confidante.
