Chapter 9 - The Test of Loyalty

Victoria turned her head slightly toward the estate security guards standing near the formal entrance. “Lock the doors. Nobody leaves this room until the police and my private forensic team arrive.”
Two large men in dark suits immediately stepped to the heavy mahogany doors, pulling them shut with a heavy thud and clicking the brass locks into place. panic flared in Claire’s eyes as she realized she was truly trapped inside the opulent room.
“Victoria, listen to me,” Claire pleaded, her voice dropping into a frantic whisper as she reached out to touch Victoria’s arm. “We’ve known each other since university. I would never hurt Leo. You know how much I care about your family!”
Victoria stepped back, avoiding Claire’s touch as if it were poison. “You don’t care about my family, Claire. You care about the forty percent share of the logistics division that my husband refused to sell to your father last week.”

She turned to look at Emma, who was still standing by the door, pale and bruised. “Emma, come here.”
Emma hesitated for a moment before stepping forward onto the polished floor, her eyes downcast, unsure of what treatment she was about to receive after being struck down minutes earlier.
