Victoria’s brow furrowed in confusion. She unsealed the leather portfolio and pulled out the single sheet of paper inside. Her eyes scanned the technical data at the top before landing on the summary conclusion printed at the bottom of the page.
The liquid in the vial was a specialized compound used to neutralize specific biological markers in DNA testing—a chemical agent designed to corrupt a blood sample before it could be processed by a lab.
Victoria’s heart stopped. She looked up from the paper, her mind spinning in a dozen different directions at once.
