Chapter 11 - The Sealed Evidence
Within fifteen minutes, the sound of distant sirens echoed outside the tall arched windows of the Sterling mansion. The bright red and blue lights flashed against the gold-trimmed walls and crystal chandeliers, casting strange, artificial shadows across the white marble floor.
Two uniformed police officers and a lead detective stepped into the banquet hall after being cleared by security. Victoria immediately presented the sealed glass vial, along with the untouched piece of cream cake, which had been carefully preserved on a silver tray.
“Detective,” Victoria said, her voice echoing with absolute authority. “This woman attempted to introduce an unknown substance into my son’s food. I want a full toxicological panel run on both the cake and the contents of this tube immediately.”

The detective took the evidence bag, noting the small drop of liquid still visible inside the vial. He turned his gaze toward Claire, who was slumped against the table, her head bowed in defeat.
“Miss Vance,” the detective said smoothly, stepping closer to her. “You’ll need to come with us to the station for questioning regarding attempted poisoning and reckless endangerment.”
