Chapter 11 - The Chase
The SUV tore through the ornamental iron gates of the estate, the impact sending sparks and shattered metal flying into the dark, rainy night. Behind them, several sets of headlights erupted from the estate’s main drive, Marcus’s private security vehicles giving chase.
Ethan turned in his seat, his hand gripping the back of Emma's headrest as he watched the pursuing vehicles through the reinforced rear glass.
“Stay down,” he ordered, his voice steady, the cold calm of a man who had survived multiple combat deployments returning to him in an instant.
The chasing cars closed the distance, their headlights cutting through the heavy rain. One vehicle attempted to pull alongside, the passenger window rolling down as a guard raised a weapon.

Ethan didn't hesitate. He lowered the rear window slightly, the cold wind and rain rushing into the cabin, and fired three precise shots into the front tire and engine block of the pursuing vehicle. The car veered violently, its tires lose grip as it spun out of control, crashing into the roadside ditch in a shower of sparks.
The remaining pursuers backed off, maintaining their distance but continuing to track the SUV’s path as they sped toward a private airfield on the outskirts of the city.
