Chapter 3 - The Confrontation
Ethan didn't hesitate. Gripping Lily securely against his chest with one broad arm, he bolted to his feet and hurried down the sidewalk after the fleeing woman.
He caught up to her just as she reached the shadowed recess of a high brick wall. Ethan reached out with his free hand, catching the sleeve of her beige wool coat and stepping into her path.
“Why did you leave this baby?” Ethan demanded, his voice dropping into a harsh, furious growl.

Claire spun around, her back hitting the cold brick wall. Her chest heaved as she fought for air, her wide blue eyes darting from the sleeping infant in his arms up to Ethan’s sharp, handsome face.
Ethan stepped closer, using his broad build to block her exit while keeping a protective hold on Lily. His breath misted in the cold night air as he stared down at the trembling woman with intense anger.
