Chapter 15 - The Eye of the Storm (An Open Ending)
Ethan rushed toward the glass chamber.
His hands trembled as he pressed his palm against the freezing surface.
"Dad..."
His voice broke.
Tears gathered in his eyes as he stared at the face of the man he had mourned for ten years.
Then, without warning, the laboratory's main monitor flashed red.
A countdown appeared.
00:02:00... 00:01:59...
At the same moment, every security monitor surrounding the lighthouse flickered to life.
Ethan turned toward the screens.
Dozens of heavily armed Vanguard operatives had surrounded the entire property.
Standing among them was the woman who claimed to be his mother.
She stepped directly in front of the main surveillance camera.
Looked into the lens.
And smiled coldly.
"There's only one way to unlock the cryogenic chamber and stop the countdown," Claire suddenly said.
Her voice had become strangely calm.
Ethan turned toward her.
"What are you talking about?"
Claire reached into her coat and pulled out a small syringe-like device.
She inserted it directly into a data port on the machine.
"Lily's DNA can save your father and deactivate the bomb," she said, looking Ethan straight in the eyes.
Something unreadable flickered across her face.
"But if we extract it right now..."
She hesitated.
"The procedure will put Lily into a permanent coma."
Ethan stared at her in disbelief.
Then he looked down at the baby.
Lily was holding the gold pendant in her tiny hands.
She reached toward Ethan, offering him the necklace with an innocent smile.
"Da... Daddy... up..."
Ethan's heart shattered.
The countdown suddenly turned bright red.

Outside, the sound of metal doors being battered open echoed through the lighthouse.
The Vanguard operatives were coming.
Ethan stood frozen, facing three devastating choices.
1. Sacrifice the baby he had just sworn to protect to save his biological father, who lay helpless inside the cryogenic chamber.
2. Activate the facility's self-destruct sequence, destroying the dangerous research and the Vanguard forces above—while accepting that he, Claire, Lily, and his father would die with them.
3. Open the doors and surrender, handing Lily over to the ruthless woman he had called Mom in exchange for his family's lives.
The countdown grew louder.

Ethan looked at his father.
