Chapter 14 - The Ghostly Lighthouse
4:00 a.m.
Rain began pouring from the black sky.
The motorboat reached a rocky shoreline beneath an abandoned lighthouse.
Beside the towering structure stood an old wooden house, its weathered walls nearly swallowed by darkness.
Ethan helped Claire and Lily onto the shore before leading them inside.
The air smelled of mildew and sea salt.
Using his phone's flashlight, Ethan searched the room until he spotted an antique grand piano in the corner.
It matched the image displayed by the pendant's tracking system.
He approached the instrument and pressed the ruby on the necklace again.
A narrow beam of light shot toward a hidden keyhole beneath the third C key.
Click.
The wooden floor suddenly shifted.
A concealed panel slid aside, revealing a spiral staircase descending into a modern underground facility illuminated by cold white lights.
Claire went down first, holding Lily close.
Ethan followed, scanning every corner.
At the bottom of the stairs, they entered an enormous server room lined with surveillance monitors and sophisticated computer equipment.
But Ethan barely noticed any of it.
His attention was fixed on the massive glass cryogenic chamber standing in the center of the room.
Inside lay a man.
An older man with a face almost identical to Ethan's.
His eyes were closed.
His body was suspended in cryogenic sleep.
And on the monitor beside the chamber, his vital signs continued to pulse steadily.
