M-17 sounded like patient.
It wasn’t.
It was a storage classification.
Mercer Reproductive Archive — Cabinet 17.
The archive belonged to private fertility practice that merged into current Hawthorne Reproductive Center—the clinic where Ethan and Claire had stored embryos.
In 1992, Dr. Samuel Voss served consultant at Mercer.
Helen Hart handled hospital records.
Connection.
But what was Cabinet 17?
Historical files showed Mercer Reproductive Archive stored:
consent forms,
donor records,
cryopreservation logs,
research correspondence.
Not embryos themselves.
M-17 contained disputed-parentage cases requiring restricted access.
Why would Claire’s file carry same code?

Claire had never told Ethan.

Not Ethan.
Claire.
Sophie resembled Claire because Claire was her biological aunt.
Then why did Claire not recognize?

“Who was Claire’s donor father?”

Anonymous.
But 1992 Baby Girl Hart file listed biological father:

Same.
Whoever orchestrated current baby switch knew old donor history.
Maybe motive centered on donor 214 descendants.
Then came payoff on Claire’s actual pregnancy.
Her embryo transfer had not used Ethan-and-Claire embryo.
Genetic testing of stored embryos under court order showed their original embryos remained frozen and intact.
Claire had been transferred a different embryo.
Without proper consent.
That embryo developed into baby Claire delivered.
So two separate infant identities existed:
Baby A:
Claire carried and delivered, genetically neither Claire nor Ethan.
Baby B:
Sophie, substituted after delivery, biological daughter of Claire’s unknown half-sister.
Where was Baby A?
Anonymous messages claimed safe.
No proof.
This was no longer simple paternity trick.
Someone manipulated embryo transfer before pregnancy and swapped newborn afterward.
Why?
And why choose Claire?
Then clinic audit identified employee with access both times:
Dr. Laura Wynn, embryology director.
She disappeared from work four days after Claire delivered.

Resigned.
Her resignation email:
