Chapter 15 - Whose Baby Sophie Really Was
Sophie was Rebecca Dawson’s daughter.
That was the answer Claire tried to keep Ethan from discovering.
But the complete truth was larger.
Thirty-four years earlier, in 1992, Rebecca had been born to Melissa and Daniel Grant after donor-assisted conception at Mercer clinic.

Jonathan Vale’s surviving family was informed that his research sample had been used without consent.
Nobody was forced into relationship because DNA said so.
Melissa and Daniel Grant met Rebecca carefully.

Rebecca looked at archivist.
“Vale?”
“Probably unrelated to Jonathan Vale. We have no evidence otherwise.”
Good.
“What did he witness?”
The archivist turned over second document.
Cedar Glen closed in 2001 after electrical fire.
Official report:
No fatalities.
All children accounted for.
Helen had written beneath:
THAT IS NOT WHAT NOAH SAW.
One final line:
THE CHILD WHO LEFT ROOM 6 WAS NOT THE CHILD WHO ENTERED IT.
Rebecca stared.
A different institution.
Different year.
Different people.
Different mystery.
Sophie’s story remained solved.
