Ryan moved west.

No obvious address.
But tax records showed consulting income through company:

One client six months earlier:
Claire.
She stared at invoice.

Payment came from her credit card.

Verification transaction.
Someone tested card.
Then no further charge.
Email tied to RC Systems had contacted Claire days later about NRS-4 key.
So Ryan likely mystery contact.
Was Ryan voice?
Old recordings showed similarity after filter removal.
Better than Victor or Samuel.
Ethan remembered Ryan.
Brilliant.
Quiet.
Obsessed with system architecture.
Ryan designed fail-safe preventing remote audio after customer handoff.
Victor repeatedly overrode.
Ryan complained internally.
Then brother died.
Ryan left.
What motive to torment Ethan’s family?
Maybe he believed Ethan enabled Victor.
Old emails showed Ryan sent Ethan warning:
YOUR SALES AUTHORIZATION IS BEING USED TO KEEP DIAGNOSTIC CHANNEL OPEN.
Ethan replied:
I’LL TAKE IT TO MARTIN.
Did he?
Ethan admitted he forwarded to manager.
Not Martin directly.
Manager said engineering issue resolved.
Ethan accepted.
Ryan may view that as betrayal.
Then Maya found Ryan’s current address through vehicle registration.
Police arrived.
House empty.
Inside legal surveillance equipment, Northstar hardware, archived company documents.
No evidence of violence.
One wall displayed timeline of privacy scandal.
Ethan’s name appeared repeatedly.
So did Claire’s.
At bottom:
UNIT 14 WAS NOT THE FIRST HOUSE.
Another address:
17 Willow Lane.
Emma had never heard.
Ethan had.
His first Northstar sale.
A family named Carters lived there.
System installed as pilot.
Was maintenance backdoor active?
Ethan did not know.
Records showed Ryan audited Willow Lane after customer complaint.
Complaint:
camera moved at night.
Speaker activated unexpectedly.
Exactly what happened now.
Someone had used remote channel years before public scandal.
Ryan traced access but report disappeared.
Who signed closure?
Victor Lane.
Thus Ryan may be exposing Victor.
But why target Ethan’s current home?
Because Ethan’s house contained original Northstar shell.
A controlled demonstration.
Why involve Claire?
She had service key.
Why involve Lily?
That crossed ethical line.
Ryan could have exposed records without frightening child.
Then police found handwritten note in Ryan’s workspace:
NO CHILD CONTACT.
CAMERA AUDIO MUST REMAIN OFF WHEN LILY PRESENT.
Emma stared.
“But somebody spoke to him.”
If Ryan wrote rule, maybe he was not voice.
Or broke own rule.
Another note:
IF VICTOR TAKES CHANNEL, CUT POWER.
Victor could hijack Ryan’s installed system.
Maybe Ryan installed camera to expose Victor; Victor took control.
Two actors.
Maya found logs supporting two command signatures.
Installer account:
RC-01.
Remote controller:
LEGACY_ADMIN.
Ryan installed.
Someone else later accessed.
Claire had been talking not necessarily to installer.
Who owned LEGACY_ADMIN?
Northstar master account.
Created years earlier by Victor’s department.
But administrator listed:
Ethan Mercer.
Ethan stared.
“I never had admin account.”

Someone had used Ethan as cover for years.
