Chapter 8 - What Happened to Susan Dawson

Susan was alive.

Claire had not mentioned because they were estranged.

She lived in Arizona.

Why estranged?

After 2016 incident Susan begged Claire to stop recording and stop fighting Mercer family.

Claire accused her of weakness.

Susan quit job months later.

Claire believed Eleanor forced her out.

Susan said:

“No. I left because you were becoming obsessed.”

Claire froze when police interview played.

Susan remembered arm-grab.

Also remembered she shoved Eleanor first during dispute over missing jewelry.

Important.

Full clip showed:

Eleanor accused Susan of losing bracelet.

Susan denied.

Eleanor insulted.

Susan pushed Eleanor’s shoulder.

Eleanor grabbed Susan’s arm.

Claire intervened.

Again, not one-sided.

But Eleanor’s threat about job was real.

Later bracelet found in Daniel’s car.

Eleanor never apologized.

Susan left.

Claire stored clip under filename:

PROOF 1.

Then dozens more.

Some showed genuine verbal and physical aggression by Eleanor.

Some showed mutual fights.

Some showed Claire provoking confrontation after camera set.

Claire’s archive became personal case file.

Why?

She grew up feeling nobody believed workers against wealthy family.

Recording gave power.

That motive understandable.

But over years she stopped using it only defensively.

In 2021, during divorce, Claire threatened release clips unless Ethan agreed to certain property terms.

Ethan had not known.

His attorney received vague warning but never clips.

That bordered coercion.

Settlement records showed Claire got penthouse? Maybe yes, this penthouse from marital settlement. But was it because threat? Ethan's counsel says settlement already fair. Claire denies blackmail. Email:

If Ethan drags this through court, the public will see what kind of family he protects.

That was leverage.

Not extortion necessarily, but ethically ugly.

Ethan confronted.

“You used my mother’s violence to negotiate with me?”

“I used the only thing you ever believed.”

“I never saw clips.”

“You refused.”

He had.

When Claire once offered show video, Ethan said:

“I’m not watching another recording of my parents fighting.”

That memory hurt.

He had chosen not to know.

So current story wasn’t simply Claire framing Ethan.

Ethan had repeatedly avoided evidence because family conflict exhausted him.

Then Susan gave crucial clue.

She recognized Adrian Shaw.

“He came to see me last month.”

“Why?”

“Asked whether Claire kept originals.”

“What did you tell him?”

“That she kept everything.”

Adrian had been trying gather and control archive after finding Daniel folder.

He feared his father Robert appeared in clips.

Did he?

Yes.

One 2018 video showed Robert Shaw advising Eleanor:

“If police ask, say Daniel was separating you and Claire.”

He helped shape false statement.

That could expose professional misconduct posthumously.

Adrian’s motive strong.

But who sent Claire today’s text?

Forensics traced to prepaid phone purchased by Susan Dawson.

Claire’s mother.

Susan had re-entered story.

Why?

She told police:

“I wanted Claire to stop trying to win fights and finally let authorities see everything.”

She sent:

YOU FINALLY MADE THEM LOOK.

Not to manipulate.

To push Claire to surrender archive.

Then:

ASK ELEANOR WHAT DANIEL RECORDED THE NIGHT BEFORE HE DIED.

Susan knew from Daniel.

He had confided before death.

Susan was not hidden mastermind.

She was trying to force truth into official process.

But using anonymous messages repeated same family habit.

May you like

Indirect control.

Everyone did it.
