Ethan finally watched the complete 2018 recording from beginning to end.

Thirty-two minutes.
It changed him.
At minute 2:
Daniel mocks Eleanor.
Minute 5:
Eleanor throws napkin, not violent.
Minute 8:
Claire tries leave.
Minute 11:
Daniel blocks doorway, shouting.
Minute 14:
Eleanor slaps Daniel.
Minute 15:
Daniel shoves Eleanor.
Minute 16:
Claire steps between.
Daniel grabs Claire’s wrist.
Minute 17:
Claire screams.
Eleanor strikes Daniel with spoon.
Minute 19:
Susan enters.
Tells everyone stop.
Minute 21:
Daniel releases.
Claire calls police.
Minute 24:
Eleanor cries and tells Claire:
“Please don’t ruin him.”
Minute 26:
Claire says:
“He hurt you.”
Eleanor:
“And I hurt him.”
Minute 30:
Daniel leaves.
That was family truth.
Mutual violence in marriage.
Claire caught in it.
Susan witness.
No single clean victim story.
Then next morning footage:
Robert Shaw arrives.
Advises Eleanor and Daniel to simplify statements.
Daniel says:
“What about Claire?”
Robert:
“Claire can choose whether she wants this family turned into prosecution.”
That framing burdened Claire.
She withdrew.
Daniel then gave money.
The system rewarded silence while telling Claire it was her choice.
That explained years of anger.
Ethan called Claire after watching.
“I understand more.”
“Do you believe me now?”
He paused.
“That question is part of problem.”
Claire frowned.
“I believe evidence. I believe you were hurt. I also believe you’ve hurt people.”
She stared.
“That’s fair.”
“Do you believe me about Mom today?”
“Yes.”
“You also hit her after you got club away.”
“Yes.”
Claire looked down.
This was what family had failed to do:
hold multiple truths without using one to erase another.
Then Ethan visited Eleanor.
“I watched full video.”
She nodded.
“You asked Claire not to ruin Dad.”
“Yes.”
“You put that on her.”
“I know.”
“Why?”
“Because I wasn’t ready to admit what my marriage had become.”
Ethan sat.
“Was Dad abusive?”
Eleanor took time.
“Sometimes.”
“Were you?”
“Yes.”
“Did you love each other?”
“Yes.”
“Does that make first two disappear?”
“No.”
There.
No euphemism.
Then Eleanor asked:
“Am I allowed to be angry Claire recorded me for ten years?”
“Yes.”
“Even though she had reasons?”
“Yes.”
“Is she allowed to be angry I’m angry?”
“Yes.”
Eleanor almost laughed.
“Terrible system.”
“Better than lying.”
Then police returned golf club.
No, as evidence retained. Not return. Fine.
Penthouse remained quiet.
Claire had wall repaired.
She left small mark where club hit marble? Maybe not.
She chose not memorialize.
Then Susan sent final message:
Don’t spend your life collecting the moment someone becomes guilty. Spend it noticing the moment you can leave.
Claire read.
Closed phone.
Current arc was ready for full resolution.
Only old clip police showed remained to contextualize exactly.
It was Susan boardroom footage because that was Eleanor’s deepest institutional fear.
Not first physical fight.
That mattered.
Physical violence got police attention.
