Henry knew.

Rachel wanted that fixed before David learned because she knew David would attack everyone involved and possibly expose Ethan.
Henry agreed.

Not paternity.
Custody/trust governance.

Ethan consent required guardian; court approved because dispute already harming him.

Claire sat down.
David closed eyes.
Ethan asked:
“So he’s my dad?”
David pulled him close.
“Yes.”
Biological question solved before central document meaning? Important: central secret still not fully solved because signature, Claire terror, why kept it. But paternity misdirection can resolve now.
Claire whispered:
“I didn't know.”
David looked at her coldly.
“You didn't care enough to find out before telling him he didn't belong to me.”
She had no answer.
Then test produced secondary observation.
No issue between David and Ethan.
But Ethan’s maternal genetic profile matched an unidentified sample already held in court file.
Whose?
Sealed.
Judge authorized release.
Sample belonged to:
Claire.
Everyone stared.
Claire laughed once in disbelief.
“That’s impossible.”
Not parent-child.
Not siblings.
More distant.

second-degree relationship.
Claire and Ethan shared substantial maternal ancestry.
David stared.
“How are you related to Rachel?”

“I’m not.”
