Chapter 11 - Samuel Price
Samuel did not deny having Margaret’s estate credentials.
As executor, he received password archive.
He should have disabled accounts.
Instead he retained some because old trust systems depended on them.
Bad governance.
Did he reactivate Margaret-B?
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“To recover old camera records.”
“Did you send Caleb message posing as Charles?”
“No.”
Computer forensic logs showed user session from Samuel’s office.
Could staff.
Samuel’s paralegal:
Emily Hart, thirty-nine.
She had access.
Why send?
Emily said Samuel told her draft test message to Caleb? Samuel denied.
Then she requested counsel.
She finally admitted.
She had sent message.
But claimed not mastermind.
Sarah Bennett contacted her two weeks earlier asking help recover Daniel’s red file.
Emily found Margaret estate archive and discovered old surveillance protocols.
She became convinced Eleanor would destroy red file if Claire found it.
She impersonated Charles to tell Caleb turn camera away during confrontation? But she could not know confrontation would happen.
She had been watching hidden camera feed.
How?
Samuel’s office inherited remote access via trust.
Emily monitored.
When Eleanor attacked Claire, she used radio bridge? Too technical. She sent command through house security channel using authorized estate system.
So voice command to Daniel Cross came from Emily.
Why turn camera away from attack?
She claimed to prevent Eleanor seeing red-file retrieval? But camera was recording evidence of assault, turning away is bad.
Her explanation:
She believed Eleanor knew camera was live and would stop attack if it stayed pointed. Wait that would be good. She wanted Ethan to physically witness? Nonsensical.
Maybe Emily’s goal was to protect Sarah/Claire identity in footage after assault, per Sarah request. But actual command "when she looks up" before Ethan. Let's simplify: Emily was instructed by Sarah to prevent Eleanor from realizing recording was being copied. When Eleanor looked up, Sarah feared she would rip camera. Emily rotated it to make Eleanor think system was being controlled by someone else and distract her. This backfired.
Sarah admitted she coordinated with Emily.
So voice command source not central mastermind, just another actor.
Who played speaker phrase?
Emily did.
She found Thomas protocol and thought triggering phrase would make Ethan search Room 3/red file.
Why?
Sarah asked.
Thus “someone watching” at moment was Sarah and Emily from Samuel’s office.
But is this too early full reveal? We can reserve central full purpose to ch15 but identify layers. User said never reveal until chap15 ideally core. We can disclose partial actors but not whole chain/what recorded before Ethan.
Eleanor knew camera because she had paired remote and knew Thomas memo.
Claire knew because Sarah.
Camera turned off/rotated by Emily through control path with Caleb/Daniel help.
Could central remaining be what camera recorded earlier and why everybody fears it. Good.
Then Ethan asked Sarah:
“You arranged this?”
“No. I arranged red file recovery. I didn’t know Eleanor would attack Claire.”
“Did you want me to notice camera?”
“Yes.”
“Why not tell me?”
“Because I needed you to see footage before Samuel deleted it.”
Samuel exploded:
“I have deleted nothing.”
Sarah produced copy.
Footage from three nights earlier.
Eleanor standing in foyer at 1:08 a.m.
A man enters.
Face hidden.
They argue.
Eleanor says:
“You promised Ethan would never know Margaret was still meeting him.”
Him?
Man replies:
“Margaret made that promise, not me.”
Voice older.
Could be Charles.
Charles denied.
Then man raises hand.
A ring.
Silver crest.
Samuel wore similar family-law firm ring.
Sarah thought Samuel.
But video was blurred.
Samuel said not him.
Then figure removed cap.
Ethan stared.
He recognized face.
Robert Morgan.
Claire’s father.
Except Claire’s father had died twenty-one years ago.
Claire whispered:
“That is not my father.”
Of course not.
The man merely resembled him.
Who?
Robert’s younger brother, Andrew Morgan.
Claire’s uncle.

And he had been secretly meeting Margaret Bennett until her death.
