There was no longer anything unexplained about the locked wooden cabinet.
Ethan opened it because Maisie pointed toward it and Corinne reacted with terror.
What Ethan saw first was a monitor showing Laura Carter in a private recovery room.
That image caused his panic.
He had spent eleven months believing Laura voluntarily abandoned him and Maisie.
Seeing her alive—apparently still inside a medical room—made him believe she had been hidden against her will.
The monitor had originally carried live feed from Cedar Hill Women’s Residence, where Laura stayed voluntarily after leaving Hale.
After Laura departed, receiver continued displaying cached video with locally generated current timestamp until disconnected.
So Ethan’s conclusion that Laura was physically there at that exact second was wrong.
But woman on screen was real.

Corinne reached beneath collar of her own blouse.
An identical pendant.
Ethan frowned.
“Where did you get yours?”
“My mother left it to me.”
Laura turned photograph over.
Another line, almost erased:
SUBJECT 6 WAS GIVEN REBECCA’S NAME AFTER PLACEMENT.
Corinne stopped breathing.
“My mother’s name?”
Ethan looked at her.
“You said Rebecca was your mother.”
“She was.”

One entry had been removed.
Only label remained:
SUBJECT 6 — ORIGINAL IDENTITY SEALED BY WILLIAM CARTER.
Then another note:
IF REBECCA EVER ASKS WHO SHE WAS BEFORE HARBOR, DO NOT ANSWER WITHOUT ETHAN’S FATHER PRESENT.
William was dead.
Rebecca was dead.
But somewhere in Carter archives was original identity of the girl who became Rebecca Lane.
Corinne’s mother.
The cabinet mystery was solved.
Laura was home.
Maisie was safe.
Nathan’s threat was exposed.
But Corinne had just learned that even her own mother’s name might have been part of an old protection identity.
