Chapter 13 - The Empty Mansion

By the following week, Eleanor Carrington had quietly vacated the grand mansion, moving into a secluded private estate in Switzerland under the supervision of a court-appointed legal guardian. The story of her quiet retirement was reported in the press as a health-related departure, but the high society circles knew the truth—the Carrington empire had changed hands.

Ethan stood in the center of the grand hall, looking around the quiet space. The shattered Ming vases had been cleared away, the marble floor polished clean of all dust and debris. The cracked decorative wall panel had been repaired, returning the room to its former splendor, though the memory of the violence that had taken place there still lingered in the quiet air.

Emma walked down the grand staircase, wearing a soft cream knit dress that draped comfortably over her growing belly. Her bruised cheek had healed into a faint, barely noticeable shadow, and her hand was no longer wrapped in bandages. She walked over to Ethan, wrapping her arm around his waist as she leaned her head against his shoulder.

Ethan wrapped his arm around her, pulling her close as they looked out through the massive glass front doors at the sunny gardens outside. For the first time in his life, the mansion felt like a home rather than a gilded cage built on secrets and fear.
