Chapter 11 - The Standoff at the Office

At four o'clock, Eleanor sat in her private corner office on the top floor of the Carrington Tower, her bruised ribs wrapped tightly beneath a sleek gray wool suit. Her legal team hovered around her like nervous shadows, presenting her with the legal surrender documents Ethan’s representatives had delivered an hour prior.
Eleanor slammed her palm against the glass desk, her silver hair perfectly coiffed despite her internal fury. She refused to sign away thirty years of absolute control over the family fortune, screaming at her lawyers to find a loop, a loophole, or a judge who could be bought to block the release of the butler's ledger.

The heavy office doors opened, and Ethan walked in alone. He wore his black three-piece suit, his hands tucked casually into his pockets as he walked to the center of the room, stopping directly across from his mother’s desk. He didn't raise his voice or make a single dramatic threat; he simply looked at the grand clock ticking on the oak wall behind her.
"Ten minutes, Mother," Ethan said softly, his deep brown eyes entirely devoid of warmth. "Sign the paper, or watch forty years of your reputation crumble on every news network in the country before the market closes."
