L.B.-1 meant “Legacy Beneficiary Residence One.”
Not a child.
The Bennett Foundation had operated several temporary family residences during the recession.
L.B.-1 was a small suburban property used from 2008 through 2010 for employees and families facing housing emergencies.
The photograph of Jonathan holding newborn had been taken there? Wait hospital photo. Need reconcile: baby from family at L.B.-1, nickname "Leo Bennett" perhaps administrative placeholder.
Samuel found intake record.
A newborn temporarily listed under internal protective identifier:
LEO B.
Not Bennett.
The “B” stood for Beneficiary.
Someone later handwritten “Bennett” on photograph.
Jonathan.
Why?
No answer.
Baby’s actual name sealed due juvenile privacy.
Ethan refused assume relation.
Then Samuel recovered committee minutes.
In 2009, a young Bennett company employee named Maria Dawson arrived at hospital after emergency delivery.
She had fled controlling partner and feared he would find child.
Bennett Foundation arranged temporary housing at L.B.-1.
Jonathan personally approved.
No adoption.
No transfer of parentage.
No secret Bennett child.
The newborn and mother left program after eleven weeks.
So why Jonathan called him “first Leo Bennett”?
Samuel found possible explanation in Jonathan’s notes.
During confidential processing, infant was assigned temporary code:

Jonathan jokingly pronounced it “Leo B.”
Staff adopted nickname.

Perhaps affectionate shorthand.

Ethan felt both relieved and frustrated.
Then why would future trust amendment name Leo?
Because someone may have mistaken old code for person.
Or deliberately reused it.
Diane knew.
When confronted, she finally admitted knowing Maria Dawson.
“She was a receptionist.”
“Did Dad have affair with her?”
“No.”
“Was baby his?”
“No.”
DNA? Jonathan deceased, possible samples? But no need. Records listed father? Sealed. Diane emphatic but not enough. Could later establish father was Maria’s ex Caleb Dawson via court paternity. Let's do.

Jonathan not father.
No hidden sibling.
So first Leo unrelated biologically to Bennett.
Why trust linked to L.B.-1?
Jonathan had amended residence trust after seeing how easily family mansion could sit mostly unused while foundation families lacked stable housing.
His intent was not give mansion to Maria’s baby.
He created “Legacy Beneficiary” provision allowing future residential committee to place a qualifying family descendant or protected beneficiary into residence.
“Leo B.” became informal symbol of program.
But paper Ethan threw named his son specifically.
That still needed explanation.
Then Ethan found handwriting analysis.
Jonathan’s signature on R-17B was genuine.
Ink dated consistently around 2016.
Jonathan really signed document months before death.
But typed words “LEO BENNETT” had been added later.
Printer toner differed.
Someone took legitimately signed form and replaced designation field after Jonathan died.
Forgery by alteration.
Who benefited?
Leo gained priority occupancy.
Strange fraud.
Most people forge documents to take property from child.
Someone had forged one to give Ethan’s future son stronger rights.
Except Leo didn't exist when Jonathan signed blank or generic form.
Could alteration have happened after Leo’s 2016 birth? Jonathan died later? Wait earlier said Jonathan died 8 years ago relative maybe 2026 = 2018. Prompt Ethan36, Leo15m, so Leo born 2025. Conflict: We said signed six months before Jonathan died and name Leo before conceived. If Jonathan died 2018, Leo born 2025. Great. The toner could be post-2025. Forensics showed signature ink consistent with 2018.
“LEO BENNETT” toner came from printer model released in 2023.
Someone altered paper recently.
After Leo’s birth.
Ethan immediately thought Diane.
But why would Diane forge document benefiting child she despised?
Samuel asked different question:
“Who gave you paper?”
Ethan had found it three days earlier inside his late father’s desk after receiving anonymous key.
A brass key mailed without return address.
Someone wanted him to discover forged designation.
Then anonymous number messaged again:
THE PAPER IS FALSE.
Ethan stared.
