David Parker was two years younger than Frank.
Handsome.
Reckless.
Charming.
And Frank's best friend until Judith.
Before Judith married Frank, she dated David.
For almost a year.
Then David disappeared abruptly.
Frank believed his brother abandoned Judith.
Six months later, Frank and Judith became close.
Eventually they married.
Now the old timeline became uncomfortable.
Could David have fathered Claire and Caroline instead of Gregory?
DNA said no.
Gregory was biological father.
So David's connection was something else.
Sarah handed Frank the green file.
Inside were letters from David.
He had not abandoned the family.
He left because Margaret Ellis paid him.
Why would Helen's mother pay Frank's brother decades before Frank married Helen?
Because David discovered Margaret was arranging illegal private adoptions.
He had been working maintenance at the county records building.
He found sealed files.
Margaret offered him money to leave.
He took it.
Frank looked disgusted.
Then the later letters showed David regretted it.
He began investigating Margaret independently.
Judith helped him.
Their relationship ended, but their investigation continued.
Then David learned Margaret had arranged the removal of Judith's newborn Caroline.
He tried to expose her.
Margaret threatened Claire.
David disappeared again.
This time intentionally.
He spent decades collecting evidence.
Then one letter from 2003 appeared.
The year Emily vanished.
Emily had found Uncle David.
He helped her disappear.
So Emily's network included:
Thomas.
Judith.
Hope.
David Parker.
Four adults.
All hiding pieces from one another.
No wonder nobody could reconstruct the truth.
Then Frank reached the final letter.
Written six months ago.
David was alive.
Eighty.
Living in Vermont.
And he had written:
Emily is coming home.
Frank began crying.
“Where is she?”
Sarah didn't know.
But David's letter contained something else.
Emily had spent twenty-three years tracking money not because she wanted her inheritance.
She believed the trust itself was evidence.
Margaret's fortune wasn't entirely legitimate.
Part came from land acquired after vulnerable families lost property through coerced guardianships and private adoptions.
Emily wanted to identify the victims.
If she simply claimed the inheritance, she might become owner of assets she believed had been stolen generations earlier.
So she stayed legally dead while building a case.
Rachel whispered:
“She gave up millions?”
Not exactly.
She redirected some trust earnings into investigation costs through Heritage Equity Preservation.
Those were the transfers Frank saw.
Some were legitimate.
Others weren't.
Someone had piggybacked on Emily's hidden system and stolen approximately $700,000.
That was the current crime.
Who?
Sarah showed us the account receiving the unauthorized portion.
Parker Family Agricultural Holdings.
Director:
Frank Parker.
Frank stared.
“I've never heard of it.”
Another stolen identity.
Then the registered address appeared.
Kevin's home.
Kevin whispered:
“No.”
Investigators searched his property.
Inside a locked filing cabinet they found company documents.
Kevin's fingerprints were on them.
So were Helen's.
And one unknown person's.
Kevin cried:
“I didn't put those there.”
Then investigators found a photograph.
Taken six weeks earlier.
Kevin sitting at a restaurant.
Across from him—
Emily.
Rachel stared at her brother.
“You've seen her.”
