Chapter 14 - The Illusion Breaks

Back at the mansion, Ethan sat in his dark library, staring at his laptop screen in absolute disbelief. The video feed from the warehouse played in crisp high-definition, the clear audio echoing through the quiet room as Julian and Claire detailed their plan to ruin him and liquidate his family's trust.

The realization hit him like a physical blow. The woman he had married, the lawyer he had trusted with his family's legacy for twenty years—they were both working together to destroy everything his ancestors had built. And worse, he had struck his wife at the pool believing it was an isolated moment of temper, completely unaware that she had actively tried to drown his daughter to cover up their crimes.

The library door opened softly, and Lily walked in, wearing her flannel pajamas and carrying her golden locket in her hand. She didn't say a word; she simply walked over to her father’s chair, climbed onto his lap, and rested her head against his chest, just as she had done on the day he pulled her from the water.

Ethan held his daughter tightly, his tears soaking into her golden hair as he whispered apologies for not protecting her, for not seeing the snake in his own house. Lily looked up at him, her huge blue eyes bright and clear, and whispered that her mother had left them a way to fight back—they just had to wait for the right moment to strike.
