Chapter 9 - The Reversal

Ethan looked down at the tiny recording device resting in his daughter's hand, a slow, dark smile spreading across his face.
Arthur’s plan had relied on the assumption that only his security camera would capture the events in the living room. He hadn't counted on Lily’s quiet intelligence, nor had he realized that the wireless bug hidden inside the collar had been broadcasting live audio to an encrypted cloud server managed by Ethan’s private security team from the moment Claire picked up the chain.
Every word Claire had spoken—every cruel command, every admission that Arthur had ordered the act—was already saved, timestamped, and sent directly to the Federal District Attorney’s office.
Ethan took the small device from Lily, pressing it gently between his fingers before slipping it into his pocket. He looked at his daughter, brushing a stray golden curl from her forehead with his thumb.
“You did good, baby,” Ethan said softly. “You did so good.”
Lily hugged his neck tighter, a tiny, tired smile finally appearing on her lips. “Is the bad man going away now, Daddy?”

Ethan looked out the high library window toward the front gate, where the flashing red and blue lights of four police cruisers were now reflecting off the wet driveway stone.
“He’s never coming back,” Ethan said, his voice cold and steady as steel.
