Chapter 8 - The Arrival of the Squad Cars
Siren lights flashed against the high stained-glass windows of the wedding ballroom as three police cruisers and an ambulance pulled up to the grand front entrance. The heavy doors were pushed open by uniformed officers, led by the city's lead homicide detective, who had been summoned directly by Ethan’s legal team.
The guests stood back in awe as the officers marched straight down the aisle and into the bridal suite. Within minutes, Senator Montgomery was led out of the suite in handcuffs, his expensive suit rumpled as he shouted threats at the officers recording his arrest.

Claire followed shortly after, her sparkling bridal gown dragging through the mud Lily had left on the floor earlier. Her face was buried in her hands, her red lipstick smeared as the press cameras flashed relentlessly from the foyer. The glittering wedding of the decade had transformed into the biggest political arrest of the year.
Lily stood near the entrance of the suite, watching her sister’s tormentors being driven away in the back of the police cars. For the first time in three days, the heavy weight in her chest began to lift, though she still clutched the edge of her blanket tightly, unsure of what would happen to her and the newborn now that the truth was out.
