Chapter 12 - A Name for the Baby

On the fifth day, the day the baby was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital, Lily sat near the window holding the child in her arms. The baby was dressed in a soft pink onesie, her tiny fingers clutching Lily’s thumb as the morning sunlight warmed the room.

Ethan walked into the room carrying a leather briefcase containing the final guardianship papers. He set the case on the table and sat beside Lily, looking down at the baby’s peaceful face.

“The hospital needs an official name for the birth certificate before we leave, Lily,” Ethan said gently. “Have you thought about what you want to call her?”

Lily looked up at Ethan, a soft, genuine smile touching her lips for the first time since the wedding. She told him that before Maya died, she had chosen a name—a name that meant "hope" in ancient Latin.

“Her name is Nadia,” Lily said softly. “Nadia Maya Sterling.”

Ethan smiled, reaching out to gently touch the baby’s tiny cheek. “Nadia it is,” he said quietly. “And I promise you, Lily, no one will ever harm this child as long as I draw breath.”
