Claire’s mother, Evelyn Morgan, founded Blackwell Custodial Services.
She died seven years earlier from cancer.
Case 16 contained private Blackwell client archive she ordered destroyed before death.
Claire could not bring herself to do it.
She stored case in secure warehouse.
Sarah discovered existence while investigating forged Claire signatures.
Six months ago Claire gave her access.
“I lied because contents could destroy people who had nothing to do with this.”
“What contents?”
Confidential records of employees who received emergency hardship payments outside official pension systems.
Domestic abuse survivors.
Undocumented workers.
Families with medical debt.
Margaret and Evelyn had quietly created parallel relief arrangement after Dawson sale.
Some records included sensitive personal details.
Publishing them would hurt beneficiaries.
Sarah promised protect identities.
But Case 16 also contained authorization memos.
One showed Richard Ashford knew benefit amendment was forged within forty-eight hours.
He chose not to report it.
Another showed Victor was never involved.
Another showed Margaret discovered truth.
So Case 16 could clear Victor and condemn Richard’s concealment.
Was Richard the one who confined Sarah?
Police interviewed him after return from Switzerland.
He admitted meeting Sarah six months earlier.
He offered settlement reopening pension-service claims.
Sarah refused confidentiality.
Argument escalated.
But Richard denied imprisoning her.
Hotel records showed meeting occurred at Ashford private office.
Sarah left building that evening on camera.
So not Richard.
Who met her afterward?
Sarah’s phone went to Blackwell warehouse.
Then disappeared.
Claire remembered one more person knew Case 16:
Daniel.
Daniel denied.
Claire stared.
“I told you years ago.”
“About confidential archive, not location.”
“You drove me there.”
Daniel went silent.
Victor looked between them.
“When?”
“Three years ago.”
Daniel admitted.
He knew warehouse.
Did he lock Sarah up?
“No.”
But his alibi for day Sarah vanished was weak.
He claimed business trip.
Flight left next morning.
Then police found toll camera.
Daniel’s car near warehouse at 11:07 p.m.
Daniel finally broke.
“I went there.”
Victor’s fists clenched.
“Why?”
“Sarah called me.”
“She was there?”
“Yes.”
“Did you lock her up?”
“No!”
“What happened?”
Daniel arrived and found Sarah confronting Claire’s uncle? Avoid another random relation.
A man named Graham Holt.
Blackwell’s longtime general counsel.
Graham managed legal fallout from old employee settlements.
He feared Case 16 would expose confidentiality breaches and reopen lawsuits.
He offered Sarah money.
She refused.
Daniel watched argument.
Then Graham took Sarah’s phone and locked warehouse records room.
Daniel did nothing.
Victor stared in disbelief.
“You watched him lock her inside?”
“For maybe ten minutes.”
“Ten minutes?”
“I was scared.”
“Then?”
“I let her out.”
Sarah punched Daniel and fled with Case 16 documents.
So Daniel had participated through cowardice.
That explained Sarah’s line:
Daniel lied.
But Sarah escaped same night.
Her later disappearance happened hours afterward.
Graham was arrested for unlawful confinement and obstruction.
Still not final answer.
Who took Sarah afterward?
Daniel said she drove away in black SUV.
Driver was woman.
He saw only profile.
Silver hair.
Victor’s heart jumped.
Could be older family? Maybe Richard’s sister? Need seed.

“Who?”
“Sarah called her after leaving.”

Helen Ward.
Former Dawson employee.
One of twenty-seven misclassified workers.
Helen was seventy.
She had every reason to hate Victor/Ashford.
But Sarah trusted her.
