Claire assumed it described Melissa.
It did not.

Gabriel petitioned court to unseal because case now intersected criminal investigation.

Adrian Grant’s younger sister.
That shocked everyone.
Lydia had secretly helped Melissa escape abusive marriage to Adrian.

Adrian discovered betrayal.
Lydia entered protection.

So payments appearing to benefit Adrian actually supported whistleblower against him.
Rachel had misread them eight years earlier.

But later Rachel corrected it.

“How do you know?”
“He told me.”
“Why believe him?”
“Because he was furious Melissa died. He wanted her back, not dead.”

Trail continued to nominee account.
Then Rebecca recognized company.
“My husband used Rosewood.”
Daniel Cross.
So Daniel paid Martin to identify Melissa as Rachel.
Why would leak sellout then help Rachel disappear?
Because after Melissa died, Daniel realized Adrian would blame him for failed surveillance.
He needed chaos.
If Rachel legally “died,” investigation focused wrong identity and Daniel could destroy access trail.
Self-preservation.
Later guilt consumed him.
He confessed pieces to Margaret.
Then died by suicide.
No grand mastermind.
A chain of cowardice.
But one question remained.
Why had Rachel stayed away after Daniel died and Adrian was convicted?
Rachel finally answered:
“Because somebody kept sending me photographs of Ethan.”
Not threats against her.
Photographs of Ethan living ordinary life.
Then Claire.
Then baby Sophie.
Each accompanied by one red rose.
Message:
IF YOU RETURN, THEY LEARN WHAT HENRY DID WITH THE SECOND FILE.
What second file?
Not Halcyon.
Not Melissa.
