Chapter 6 - Rachel’s Death
Rachel had not been murdered.
That was the first correction.
Her illness was real.
Her death medically documented.
But in final months she became convinced someone was manipulating her medication schedule to make her appear cognitively unstable.
No poisoning was ever proven.
Independent review years later found dosing errors but no evidence of deliberate harm.
Rachel’s fear may have been partly justified and partly amplified by illness.
Before death, she told David:
“If anything happens around Ethan’s inheritance, trust your mother before you trust the company.”
David thought grief and fear were speaking.
Then Eleanor created White Ribbon protocol.
After Eleanor died, David planned dismantle it.
He didn't.
On night Ethan vanished, David received anonymous envelope.
Inside:
Photograph of Ethan asleep.
Taken that afternoon from inside nursery.

RACHEL WAS RIGHT.
HE’S NEXT.
David panicked.
He ordered Marcus to activate White Ribbon.
So yes.
David gave order to remove Ethan from estate.
That explained fear in courtroom.
He knew Anna might reveal it.
But he did not order kidnapping.
He believed he ordered protection.
Then why conceal for three years?
Because extraction failed.
Protocol required Ethan be taken to secure property with two guards.
Instead he ended alone in abandoned cottage.
Someone hijacked plan.
David feared admitting he initiated removal would make him look responsible and damage custody/corporate control.
So he lied.
There was his guilt.
Cowardice.
Control.
But maybe not mastermind.
Anna looked at him.
“You let everyone think I kidnapped him.”
David couldn't meet her eyes.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I thought you betrayed protocol.”
“You paid me to disappear.”
“I didn't.”
Then who sent $50,000?
Marcus controlled Eleanor credentials.
Suspicion returned.
Marcus admitted making payment.
But said David instructed verbally next morning.
David denied.
No recording.
Then Anna described man she met after Ethan recovered.
She had believed David.
Dark suit.
Same height.
Office lights dim.
She never saw face clearly because he stood by window.
He told her:
“You did what we needed. Now disappear.”
Maybe not David.
Who could imitate posture/voice?
Marcus?
Yes.
Then Ethan suddenly remembered something odd.
The man behind nursery door wore polished black shoes.
David always wore black formal shoes.
Marcus too.
But one shoe had silver buckle.
David didn't own buckle shoes.
Marcus did.
Investigators looked at Marcus.
He smiled bitterly.
“So did half the security team.”
Then Ethan whispered:
“No.”
He remembered more.
“The buckle had a bird.”
Marcus stopped smiling.
Cole security insignia was a falcon.
But another family used a raven.
