Why did Eleanor build White Ribbon years before merger?
Because Rachel asked.
Rachel feared future struggle over Ethan.
Her final private recording survived in bank box.
She did not accuse David of harming her.
Instead:
“If David ever believes protecting Ethan requires controlling everything around him, somebody must be able to say no.”
David looked devastated.
Rachel loved him.
She also feared his instinct to control.
Then:
“Jonathan will blame David. David will blame Jonathan. My mother-in-law will blame company. None of them will notice the person who benefits when they fight.”
Who?
Rachel had discovered Sterling North’s trust structure gave institution emergency voting authority if family guardians disqualified.
She wanted clause removed.
Peter Wynn advised against.
She suspected conflict.
That seeded Eleanor’s concern.
So Eleanor created White Ribbon as countermeasure.
Ironically Peter later exploited it.
Then Rachel said something unexpected:
“Anna knows where original trust letter is.”
Anna had worked for Rachel before becoming housemaid.
She wasn't random staff.
Rachel trusted her.
Anna had kept original letter hidden for years.
Why not reveal?
Because Rachel instructed only if Ethan’s memory returned independently.
Again paternalistic secrecy.
Anna now produced it.
Inside:
Rachel requested that no institution, including Sterling North, ever exercise Ethan’s votes during emergency.
Instead votes should be suspended.
If legally valid, Peter’s entire scheme could never have worked.
Did Peter know?
No.
That was secret he was trying to locate.
Maybe kidnapping served two purposes: get David out of way and search nursery for original letter.
The impersonator Rebecca saw someone searching after Ethan removed.
Male.
Peter.
So yes.
He was after letter.
Then Peter’s motive sharpened.

Firm $46m fee.
Career.
But was he mastermind?
Evidence increasingly yes.
Yet Chapter 15 secret should be larger.
Then forensic audit found Peter had not originated merger conflict structure.
Sterling North emergency clause inserted years earlier at request of—
Rachel.
What?
Her signature authentic.
Why would she create power she later wanted removed?

Then Ethan remembered another phrase.
Night of disappearance, someone said:
“Your mother wanted this.”
That made him follow.
Who said?
Peter.
He weaponized Rachel’s wishes.
Then Anna looked at Ethan’s ribbon.
“There's one thing still missing.”
The old ribbon had been cut once and resewn.
Inside seam was tiny strip of paper.
Nobody had found because Ethan refused surrender ribbon.
Court allowed careful inspection.
Three handwritten words:
TRUST ANNA. — R.
Rachel’s handwriting.
Anna broke down.
Rachel had prepared Ethan’s ribbon years earlier.
So matching ribbons were not merely White Ribbon protocol.
Rachel specifically paired Ethan with Anna as emergency protector.
That meant Anna had been telling truth from beginning.
But why did Ethan initially remember Anna as abductor?
Because she was the last adult he clearly saw driving him away.
Trauma collapsed rescue and danger into one memory.
Then Ethan asked:
“Did Dad know Mom chose you?”
Anna looked at David.
“No.”
David’s face fell.
Rachel trusted housemaid with role she did not give husband.

“Why?”
