The Signature That Saved Me / Chapter 13 / 15

Chapter 13 - What Khloe knew

Khloe stopped denying things.

We met under federal supervision.

She looked smaller without Caleb beside her.

“When did you find my mother?”

“Two years ago.”

Before my wedding anniversary.

Before dozens of dinners where she smiled across my table.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“She begged me not to.”

“You expect that to save you?”

“No.”

At least she understood.

Khloe had discovered Helena while undergoing cardiac testing at the neurological center.

Helena recognized Marianne’s daughter.

She made Khloe promise silence.

In exchange, Helena told her the truth about Sebastian.

Her father.

Mine.

“Why keep running to Caleb?”

“Because I was afraid.”

“So you used my husband as a shield.”

“Yes.”

“And enjoyed humiliating me.”

Khloe’s eyes lowered.

“Yes.”

There was no excuse.

Fear could explain cruelty.

It did not erase it.

“Did you love him?”

She took too long.

“I loved knowing he would come.”

That answer was painfully precise.

“Did he love you?”

“I think Caleb loved being needed.”

That was also true.

Then Khloe explained the crash.

We had been leaving a Blackwood charity gala.

Khloe called Caleb because she believed Sebastian’s people were following her.

Caleb turned the car around.

We were arguing.

Then another vehicle struck us.

“Was the crash intentional?”

“I don’t know.”

Federal investigators were already checking.

“What did my mother tell you?”

“That Sebastian was preparing something called the Sinclair ratification.”

My signature.

“She said if he ever got it, everything she sacrificed would mean nothing.”

“Where is Helena now?”

Khloe began crying.

“I don’t know.”

“She disappeared six months ago.”

The same month Khloe’s behavior toward Caleb became unbearable.

Midnight calls.

Fake emergencies.

Constant interruptions.

“You were trying to keep Caleb close because Helena vanished.”

“Yes.”

“Why Caleb?”

“Because Jonathan left something with him.”

Caleb did not know.

His father had embedded access credentials inside a childhood trust.

Those credentials opened a private archive.

Rebecca obtained court authorization.

Caleb voluntarily provided biometric access.

The archive contained Jonathan’s records.

Evidence against Sebastian.

Evidence against Victoria.

And dozens of video messages for Helena.

The final file was dated six months earlier.

Jonathan sat facing the camera.

“If you’re watching this, Helena is missing.”

He looked exhausted.

“Sebastian finally learned Lucia’s marriage activated the wrong side of the trust.”

Wrong side?

We had believed separation activated my control.

Jonathan explained marriage triggered something too.

A hidden succession provision.

If I married a Blackwood descendant, Sinclair Meridian automatically began documenting every transaction between both family networks.

My mother had designed the marriage itself as a trap.

She knew Sebastian might try to marry me into his family.

So she let him.

The moment I married Caleb, a silent forensic audit began.

For three years it had collected everything.

My divorce had not created the evidence.

It unlocked it.

Rebecca stared at me.

“Lucia…”

“How much?”

May you like

She looked at the archive totals.

“Enough to collapse Sebastian’s entire empire.”
