Sarah wrote:

Michael felt exposed.

Sarah confronted.

Ryan’s instinct is rescue. His weakness is believing good motive makes disclosure optional.

IF I AM GONE, DO NOT REMOVE RYAN FROM THE CHILDREN’S TRUST JUST BECAUSE HE MAKES A BUSINESS MISTAKE.
Michael stopped.
Sarah anticipated.
She continued:
Ryan loves Lucas. If Oliver arrives safely, he will love him too. Separate his role as uncle from his role as executive. Judge each with evidence.
Oliver had not yet been born when Sarah wrote.
She was pregnant.
Michael swallowed.
Then:
But if Ryan ever uses the children, frightens them, or asks them to carry adult secrets, that is different. Protect them first.
Exactly what happened.
Ryan had crossed line.
Whatever nuance financial case held, forcing Lucas into kennel was separate.

Claire worries me more.
Michael looked up.

Sarah described Claire as intensely status-conscious after marrying into Bennett family through Ryan? Wait Claire is Ryan's wife, all Bennetts same surname. Fine.
Claire measured safety through appearances.
Sarah had seen her humiliate service workers, hide debt from Ryan, and treat family gatherings as proof of success.
But Sarah did not call her evil.
She wrote:
Claire becomes cruel when embarrassed. Ryan becomes secretive when rescuing her. Together, that combination could become dangerous.
Four years later, exactly.
Then final pages referenced:
BIRTHDAY FILE.
Michael frowned.
No file in notebook.
Dana searched Sarah’s old legal archive.
Folder existed.
Encrypted.
Password hint:
LUCAS FIRST WORD.
Michael smiled despite everything.
“Dog.”
Lucas’s first word had been “dog.”
Folder opened.
Inside:
continuity trust drafts,
vendor controls,
and audio file.
Sarah’s voice.
Recorded four years earlier.
“Michael, if you’re hearing this, I need you to understand why I put Ryan on the trust.”
Michael braced.
Sarah continued:
“Because there was a day he gave up something enormous for Lucas, and I never told you.”
