Sophia Vale met Ethan without attorney.
That surprised him.
She looked tired.
Older than when they last spoke.
“Marcus would hate this,” she said.
“Which part?”
“All of it.”
“Then why fund Aster Ridge?”
“Because Northlake deal isn’t what you think.”
She explained Aster Ridge did not seek destroy Bennett Home Technologies.
It wanted prevent private-equity breakup already being negotiated behind board.
A rival bidder, Kestrel Group, planned acquire company, sell real-estate assets, and offshore manufacturing.
Northlake proposed keep operations intact.
Sophia invested because Marcus helped build company.
She wanted preserve employees.
Then why ally with Martin?
She didn’t know he planned paternity challenge.
She hired Aster Ridge advisory.
Aster Ridge coordinated Hartwell.
Martin presented Northlake as best option.
Sophia knew nothing about Claire until Rebecca called.
“Did you know Marcus’s signature was being used?”
“No.”
Ethan studied her.
“Did Anna think Marcus was Lily’s father?”
Sophia almost laughed from grief.
“No.”
“Were Marcus and Anna having an affair?”
“No.”
“How can you be sure?”
“Because I was at Bellmont too.”
Ethan stared.
Security photograph cropped more than Daniel.
Sophia entered through parking garage and met them after.

Sophia.

Marcus had discovered Hartwell predecessor using contingency simulations involving family status.
He was worried someone might weaponize personal records.
Sophia had legal/financial background and helped.
Why hide from Ethan?
Because Marcus believed Ethan’s father Richard? Wait no father mentioned. We can use family board chair maybe Charles? But keep simple: Ethan's uncle Thomas? We haven't introduced. Better say Ethan would confront Martin directly, compromising evidence.
Marcus wrote a memorandum after meeting.
Sophia kept copy.

One paragraph:
My signature appears on Anna’s emergency pregnancy contact form. Martin joked that “with two edits, I could make you Lily’s father before she’s born.” I told him never to touch it. He laughed.
There.
Direct origin.
Martin had conceived forgery as joke—or threat—six years earlier.
Marcus died three weeks later from aneurysm.
No evidence death connected.
After his death, someone actually made edits.
Sophia believed Martin.
Why didn’t she report earlier?
She did not know altered version existed until now.
Then Ethan asked:
“Why did Claire have photograph with Marcus face blacked out?”
Sophia did not know.
Claire had shown Lily a photograph separate from forged acknowledgment.
Ethan recovered from Claire’s phone.
It was Bellmont surveillance still.
But Marcus’s face had been digitally darkened before Claire received it.
Why hide face if purpose was tell Lily Marcus was father?
Because sender wanted Claire to reveal it herself.
A staged reveal.
Metadata traced image not Rebecca.
Not Claire.

Something even Northlake deal could not explain.
