Chapter 11 - The Recording Plays
"Put the book down, Claire," Ethan said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he stepped into the room.
Claire backed away toward the high windows, clutching the journal against her chest like a shield. She screamed that she had been framed, that Lily had lured her into the west wing to stage another scene, and that the child was mentally unstable like her mother.
Without saying a word, Ethan reached out and pressed the "PLAY" button on the secondary control panel mounted beside the doorframe. The room's built-in speaker system came alive, carrying Eleanor's clear, recorded voice throughout the entire west wing.
"...Claire has likely already made her move to take my place. The pharmaceutical logs attached to page forty-two of the journal prove she ordered the digoxin compounds under my forged signature..."

The police chief stepped forward, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt as the recorded confession detailed every specific transaction Claire had made. Claire’s hands began to shake so violently that the journal slipped from her grip, hitting the floor with a heavy thud and scattering yellowed documents across the wood.
"You're under arrest for capital murder and attempted murder of a minor, Mrs. Carrington," the chief said, his voice flat as he moved in to secure her wrists.
